What is relationship education?

Relationship education (ed.) is for everyone. It gives couples a safe space to learn and develop skills for starting off a relationship right – including couple maintenance, and overall relationship health. Topics we explore in relationship ed. include communication, conflict resolution, commitment, recognizing abuse, intimacy, family-of-origin influences, and individual personality. You can take relationship ed. through community classes, individual coaching sessions, and online learning. Anyone can benefit from relationship education – not just those who are in serious dating relationships or are engaged/married. 

What is premarital education?

Premarital education is a form of relationship ed. that is geared towards preparing two individuals embarking on marriage. In addition to the topics covered in a typical relationship education course, premarital education also covers topics related to financial management, parenting/childrearing, expectations for marriage, commitment, and specific relationship issues. Premarital ed. is great for couples who are interested in creating a positive, supportive foundation for their marriage. We recommend that engaged couples complete premarital education at least six months before your wedding date, but this is not a requirement.
In Texas, couples can also get a discount and waiver on their marriage license by completing 8 hours of a registered premarital education course beforehand.

What is marriage enrichment?

Marriage enrichment is just like it sounds – a chance for you and your spouse to enrich your marriage. Maybe you feel like you and your partner are drifting apart after much time together. Perhaps there are some areas in your marriage that you would like to grow in, like communication, intimacy, or finances. You may also feel like your relationship is doing well but that you'd like a chance to connect on a deeper level with your spouse. All of these are great reasons to participate in marriage enrichment. In marital enrichment, you will take an assessment to identify the strength and growth areas within your relationship and then work with a relationship expert to celebrate and build on your strengths while working to improve in your growth areas.

how is premarital education different from premarital counseling?

Premarital counseling takes place with a licensed counselor or therapist and often takes place at the counselor/therapist's office in a couple-on-one setting. Some health insurance plans may cover the cost of premarital counseling, but the out-of-pocket cost is usually around $800 for eight hours of premarital counseling. Indeed, some relationship issues would most benefit from the expertise and training of a licensed counselor or therapist. In these cases, Have & Hold maintains a list of trusted counselors and therapists that we refer couples to.

Premarital education is more generalized and takes place with a certified facilitator in a couple-on-one or classroom setting with other couples. The cost of Have & Hold's premarital education and relationship coaching is $300. Apart from the 8 hours of coaching, this price includes 2 workbooks, supplementary materials, and a relationship assessment. The content of premarital counseling and premarital education is very similar, and both are customizable for couples' specific relationship strength and growth areas.

How much do classes cost?

Your investment includes an assessment for you and your partner, all course materials, and eight hours of feedback sessions with a certified facilitator. Don't forget to include essential premarital education in your wedding budget as you plan for your big day! 

What if i need to cancel my registration?

In the case that you realize you and your partner need to discontinue our services for the time being, we offer full and partial refunds for cancellation, depending on how far along you are in our program. It's imperative that you notify us as soon as possible of your cancellation.

OUR CANCELLATION & REFUND POLICY: Your registration payment is 100% refundable for 30 days following registration if your cancellation request is received by Have & Hold prior to the issue of your Prepare|Enrich online couple assessment. Immediately after the assessment has been issued, a 50% refund may be granted. Refunds of any amount will not be granted following 2 hours of provided services, coaching, or educational facilitation. How long do classes take to complete?

The State of Texas requires that premarital education courses include at least 8 hours of instruction or feedback about specific relationship topics. Because of our flexible relationship coaching approach, those 8 hours can be spread apart over however many sessions you would like to do. We recommend that engaged couples complete their pre-marital education at least six months prior to their wedding day.
